Extra Thick Garlic & Mushroom Soup
Aug 24, 2011Advice and observations from my children:
Don’t let other people make you feel bad because most of the time they’re only saying that because they feel bad about it.
If you get kicked in the ballsack, it will hurt. Especially if it’s your older brother who does it.
Save your candy until the movie starts. Previews don’t count.
If Mummy says you can’t have something, you can argue with her and she might change her mind. If Daddy says you can’t, you can’t.
Grandparents say yes a lot.
Salad is just another way of saying vegetables.
Your siblings are so annoying but the are also your best friends.
It’s not nice to say I don’t care. It’s also not nice to call someone fire engine poopy head.
It’s okay to say Bloody Hell in America because it’s not really a big swear.
Everyone was once a kid.
Mushrooms are one of those things that look like you shouldn’t be able to eat them but you can.

August 25, 2011Yesterday, my best friend and I had a fight. We are more like very close siblings, so we don’t fight often – maybe twice a year – but when we do, it’s fairly intense and resolved quickly, but still stressful.
We are fine now, but tonight I am going to attempt this soup and share it with him. I may re-christen it Peace Offering Soup. Thank you for sharing!

August 25, 2011Great advice and a delicious sounding soup. I love mushroom soup! I had to explain to my then 8 year old that “fat” wasn’t a swear word, even though Mummy had banned it from being said in the house.. 😉

August 26, 2011I totally made chocolate chip cookies last night (while snacking on labneh and roasted asparagus). Thank you!

August 28, 2011What is it with children and mushrooms these days? My sister and I always loved them and even ate stranger and slimier wild ones that my aunt and uncle went foraging for in the forest. But it seems that nowadays eating a mushroom is not to be entertained by anyone under the age of 16 (my teens included). They will eat them smooth and love garlic though – so this recipe is going to have an outing in my kitchen very soon.

August 28, 2011My in-laws require cream for their coffee, so I wind up making this soup or similar after they depart and we’ve still got 3/4 pint of cream left in the fridge. My father went through a slightly worrying phase of foraging in the woods in the UK for anything semi-edible…hope your soup is grand!
